This professional tenor saxophone was made in Japan by Yanagisawa, one of the most respected manufacturers of modern saxophones. While the bell is intentionally marked only “Made by Yanagisawa – Japan,” this instrument was built to full professional specifications and represents a Yanagisawa stencil production from the company’s highly regarded late 20th-century output.

Yanagisawa stencil instruments were produced for select distributors and retailers and share the same core manufacturing standards as the company’s branded professional models of the era. Construction details, keywork geometry, and overall fit and finish place this saxophone firmly within Yanagisawa’s pro-level tenor lineage, comparable in performance to the company’s well-known 900-series tenors.

This example offers excellent intonation, even response across the full range, and a centered, focused tone that works equally well for jazz, classical, and commercial playing. The keywork is solid and comfortable, with smooth low-register response and reliable upper-range stability – hallmarks of Yanagisawa’s professional design philosophy.

Condition is very good for a 30+ year old professional instrument. The original lacquer shows typical, honest wear consistent with age, including light thinning and cosmetic patina. Pads are used but sealing properly, and the horn plays well throughout the range. No major dents or structural issues are present.

For players seeking a true professional tenor saxophone without the premium attached to a fully branded model, this Yanagisawa-built instrument represents an outstanding value and a meaningful upgrade over modern student or intermediate horns.
