This early-edition, pre-war (1935) 6M represents the pinnacle of Conn’s golden era of saxophone design and craftsmanship. Built in Elkhart, Indiana, during the first years of production, this model defined what a professional alto could be—blending beauty, innovation, and an unmistakably powerful voice. Pre-war 6Ms are among the most coveted altos ever made, prized for their vibrant resonance, expressive tone, and superb mechanical design.
This example is in very fine condition, featuring its original silver-plated finish with a gold-washed bell interior, creating a stunning two-tone visual contrast and subtle warmth in the horn’s sound. The plating shines beautifully with only light, age-appropriate wear. It has been fully repadded with new pads and resonators, providing crisp response and airtight performance across the range. The body is structurally excellent, with no major dents or damage, and the “Naked Lady” engraving on the bell remains sharp and deeply detailed.
As an early-production 6M, it includes all the defining Conn innovations: rolled tone holes, underslung octave key, and the iconic microtuner neck, all functioning smoothly. The tone is classic pre-war Conn—rich, resonant, and powerful, with a lush midrange and the ability to project effortlessly.
