This professional-grade Buescher True Tone tenor, manufactured in 1928, represents the pinnacle of the company’s craftsmanship during the late 1920s, an era when Buescher instruments were considered among the finest in the world. Built in Elkhart, Indiana, the True Tone series was Buescher’s flagship professional line, admired for its precision, resonant tone, and superior mechanical design.

This example is in very good playing condition, with its original silver plating showing only light wear. The body is clean and structurally sound, with a few small dings but no real dents. It retains a lovely patina that complements its age and artistry. If so inclined, the new holder of this horn could lovingly polish it to a bright shine. The horn plays evenly across the full range, and the keywork is smooth and responsive, making it a joy to play for both professionals and collectors alike.

The 1928 True Tone features drawn (pulled) tone holes, not soldered, formed directly from the brass body for consistent resonance and reliability. It also retains Buescher’s patented snap-in pad and resonator system, designed for easy service and improved projection. The horn’s tonal character is warm, lyrical, and complex, capable of blending beautifully in section work yet maintaining a commanding presence when played solo.

True Tones from this era were favored by early jazz and dance-band players, including Frankie Trumbauer, Isham Jones, and members of the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, for their expressive flexibility and refined voice.
