This Martin Magna Tenor Saxophone, made around 1961, represents the pinnacle of Martin’s craftsmanship during its final years of U.S. production. Positioned as Martin’s top professional model, the Magna combined the company’s renowned hand-fitted tone holes, solid post-to-body construction, and unmatched tonal richness with several unique mechanical refinements that set it apart from other horns of the era.

This example retains most of its original lacquer, showing moderate wear from careful use over more than six decades. It is free from dents or significant cosmetic damage, with only minor surface marks and light pitting that do not affect playability or structural integrity. The engraving remains crisp, and the overall presentation is both elegant and well-preserved.

The Magna’s premium features include:

  • Adjustable octave mechanism screw to fine-tune the height of the octave key for optimal response
  • Enlarged left-hand thumb pearl for improved comfort and control
  • Adjustable bow and bell key felts to customize key height and regulation
  • Extra rollers on the G# table for smoother, faster action in the left-hand pinky keys

Praised for its solid intonation, responsive keywork, and rich tonal complexity, the Magna delivers the characteristic Martin “core” sound –  warm, powerful, and highly projecting. Whether in jazz, big band, or studio work, this horn offers a commanding voice and exceptional craftsmanship.

Features:

  • Circa 1961 production
  • Mostly intact original lacquer with light wear
  • No dents or major cosmetic issues
  • Crisp, well-preserved engraving
  • Adjustable octave mechanism screw, enlarged thumb pearl, adjustable felts, and extra pinky key rollers
  • Legendary Martin build quality and tonal depth

A beautiful hard-working example of one of Martin’s most advanced and desirable tenor saxophones – equally at home as a professional player’s instrument or a standout piece in a serious collection.

Comes in the original vintage hard case in good condition.
