Here is a truly rare and exquisite example of early American saxophone design: a silver-plated Martin “Typewriter” Alto Saxophone in collector-grade condition. Produced in the late 1920s, this model is famed for its distinctive round pearl key touches—earning it the nickname “Typewriter”—as well as its bold Art Deco aesthetic and lush tonal character.

This horn is in exceptional, museum-worthy condition, retaining nearly all of its original silver plating with crisp engraving and brilliant shine. The keywork is tight and responsive, the pads seal well, and the horn plays effortlessly with Martin’s signature warmth, clarity, and projection. You’ll be hard-pressed to find another example this well-preserved.

With its unique design, limited production run, and striking visual appeal, the Martin Typewriter is a favorite among serious collectors—but this one is also ready to play, offering a truly special sound and feel.

Features:

  • Original silver-plated finish in stunning condition
  • Rare pearl “Typewriter” key touches
  • Fully functional keywork with excellent pad seal
  • Rich, full-bodied tone with vintage warmth and presence
  • Crisp, detailed Art Deco-style engraving
  • A very fine example of this rare model

Whether you’re a saxophone historian, vintage horn enthusiast, or professional player looking for a one-of-a-kind alto, this silver-plated Martin Typewriter is a showpiece in every sense—equal parts art, rarity, and instrument.

This saxophone comes in the original purple velvet-lined Martin hard case (typical wear).
