WRM00050

A discontinued, earlier-generation Vandoren V16 T95 metal tenor saxophone mouthpiece, serial number 30AA, accompanied by a matching Vandoren Optimum ligature. Made from Vandoren’s bell-metal brass and originally plated in 24-karat gold, this is the original V16 metal design that was later identified most closely with the line’s small-chamber configuration.

The T95 has an approximately 2.95 mm/.116-inch tip opening, placing it between a conventional 9 and 9★. Combined with the V16’s rollover baffle and compact chamber, it should produce a powerful, projecting tenor sound with plenty of brightness, edge and upper-register response. It is a decidedly open setup intended for an experienced player and would be particularly suitable for jazz, rock, funk and other amplified or high-energy settings.

This mouthpiece is in well-used vintage condition. It displays extensive tarnish, rainbow-toned oxidation, surface scratches and substantial wear to the original gold plating, particularly around the beak, sidewalls and table. The bite plate is present and shows wear. The tip and rails appear intact, but the facing should be measured and play-tested because of the visible use. Included is the dedicated gold-finished Vandoren Optimum ligature, with one pressure plate installed; additional interchangeable plates and cap are not included.
