A rare vintage Otto Link Master Link Four Star metal alto saxophone mouthpiece, marked Series L 41, and manufactured in New York, likely during the 1940s to early 1950s. These early Master Link models predate many of Otto Link’s more widely recognized later offerings and remain sought after by collectors and players for their rich tonal complexity and classic American jazz voicing.

This example features the original engraved Master Link N.Y. Mouthpiece logo, Four Star Model marking, and Patented stamp. The L designation suggests a large chamber configuration, a design associated with a broad, warm sound and excellent tonal depth. Large-chamber vintage Links are especially valued by players seeking an old-school alto voice with warmth, body, and natural resonance.

Condition is good vintage condition with significant but honest cosmetic wear, including lacquer loss, oxidation, surface scratching, and natural patina across the brass body. The rails, tip, and table appear intact from the provided images, with no obvious major structural damage or bite-through. The piece shows decades of use but retains strong visual character and appears structurally solid.

This is a cool piece – and not something you see every day.

The Master Link Four Star occupies an interesting place in Otto Link history. It has some of the lush, complex Link DNA players love, but with an even more old-world feel than many later STM pieces. The large chamber likely gives this mouthpiece a big, round, fat alto voice – less laser beam, more velvet with authority.

For a player chasing a Cannonball / Johnny Hodges-adjacent warmth, or a collector of early New York Links, this is the kind of mouthpiece that draws attention.
