WRM00060

A highly desirable vintage Meyer Bros. New York 5M tenor saxophone mouthpiece in used condition. Produced during the classic Meyer Bros. New York era, original tenor pieces are encountered far less frequently than their better-known alto counterparts, making this an especially interesting example for both players and collectors of vintage mouthpieces.

This example is marked 5M and features the New York Medium Chamber designation along with the original “Meyer Lapped Facing” stamp. Constructed from hard rubber, it offers the warmth, body, flexibility, and responsive feel associated with vintage Meyer mouthpieces, but in the larger tenor format.

The mouthpiece shows honest signs of vintage use, including scratches, tooth wear, oxidation, and discoloration consistent with its age. The original markings remain visible, including the Meyer Bros. New York branding, 5M facing designation, Medium Chamber marking, and Meyer Lapped Facing stamp.

While Meyer is most famously associated with the alto saxophone, original Meyer Bros. New York tenor mouthpieces are considerably less common. For the tenor player, the Meyer design offers an alternative to the Links and other large-chamber pieces that dominate the vintage tenor mouthpiece market, with a focused core, warmth, flexibility, and the ability to project when pushed.

Features

  • Vintage Meyer Bros. New York tenor saxophone mouthpiece
  • Original hard rubber construction
  • Marked 5M facing
  • Medium Chamber model
  • Original “Meyer Lapped Facing” stamp
  • Classic New York-era production
  • Warm, full-bodied vintage Meyer tonal character
  • Used vintage condition with cosmetic wear from age and use

Original Meyer Bros. New York tenor mouthpieces are significantly harder to encounter than the alto pieces for which Meyer became famous. That scarcity, combined with the desirable 5M facing, Medium Chamber configuration, and surviving period markings, makes this a compelling mouthpiece for a tenor player looking for something outside the usual vintage Link territory – as well as for a collector seeking an uncommon example of Meyer Bros. New York production.
