The late-1920s Conn straight sopranos represent some of the finest soprano saxophones produced during America’s golden era of saxophone manufacturing, and this 1929 example is an exceptional survivor. Finished in original silver plate with 95% coverage and recently polished to a brilliant shine, this horn combines outstanding visual presentation with the huge, colorful voice that has made vintage Conn sopranos increasingly sought after by players and collectors alike.

Built during Conn’s celebrated late New Wonder era, these straight sopranos are known for their broad, resonant sound and remarkable tonal complexity. Compared to many modern soprano designs, Conn sopranos from this period tend to produce a larger, warmer, and more overtone-rich voice, with a powerful low register and an expressive upper register that remains lively without becoming thin or overly bright. The sound is rich, vocal, and full of character – unmistakably vintage Conn.

The original silver plate remains almost fully intact (some wear to the inside of the bell) and presents beautifully after recent polishing, allowing Conn’s elegant engraving and refined craftsmanship to shine. The straight body design, classic microtuner neck, and detailed silver finish all reflect the premium professional-level construction Conn was known for during this period. This is the kind of soprano that feels equally at home in a collection or in the hands of a serious player.

Mechanically, the saxophone has been fully overhauled and adjusted, offering excellent response and immediate playability throughout the full range of the instrument. The action feels precise and responsive, making this an especially strong example for players seeking a vintage soprano without needing additional restoration work.

An especially desirable feature of this example is that it includes the original case along with the original Conn mouthpiece, cap, and ligature. The included mouthpiece appears to be the original Conn hard rubber piece with the classic C.G. Conn Ltd. patent stamp (Apr. 12, 1921) and serial marking, a wonderful period-correct accessory that adds both collector appeal and historical completeness.
